“Is an agent responsible for cleaning the unit balconies and glass and making sure lights are working before a new tenant moves in?” – Mary

Mary, we asked business development manager at LJ Hooker Gosford, Madeleine Smith for her opinion on your question:

Madeleine said a good agent will ensure a high standard of cleanliness and a well-maintained property prior to you moving in, although it is the Landlord’s responsibility to adhere to this.

“Generally in Strata complexes, external windows will be covered by the Strata or Body Corporate, usually on a designated cleaning schedule, which you agent can look into for you,” she said.

“The Landlord is responsible for ensuring all lights are working at the commencement of the tenancy (including range hood, oven and outdoor lights) and then it is the tenants responsibility to replace them as needed, in NSW.”
