“Can I do minor repairs on my rental? If so, what sort of minor repairs am I allowed to do? Do I have to ask for the owner’s permission?” – Tenant, QLD

We asked the Director/Licensee and Head of Property Management at Homes4U, Mareea Wilkinson, for her advice.

“It is never recommended that a tenant do any repairs or maintenance on their tenanted property, but some tenants do wish to be a little independent,” Mareea said.

“The one thing which we never allow is plumbing, electrical or safety repairs and definitely no cleaning out of gutters.”
