In 2019, Chinese New Year began on February 5 and welcomed in the Year of the Pig.

How does the Chinese zodiac work?

The Chinese zodiac moves in a 12-year cycle, so if you were born in 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007 or 2019, you are also known as a Pig.

If you follow the Asian astrology, your year of birth (and animal) determines a lot about your personality traits.

If you were born in an earth Pig year, you’re said to be hardworking, kind, sensible and logical.

The Pig makes up just one of 12 animals in the cycle and each gets to the forefront once every 12 years. But just to complicate things, there are different animal varieties, so 2018 will be the first Year of the Earth Pig since 1959.

Which Chinese zodiac animal am I?

China’s animal zodiac is arranged in a repeating cycle of 12 years and you’ll see that the animal changes at the beginning of Chinese New Year. Traditionally, the animal was used to date the year.

But you’ll be hard-pressed to remember the date because Chinese New Year is a moveable celebration which is dictated by the lunar cycle – and this falls anytime between January 21 and February 20.
